The dating scene in Nairobi is not all glamorous!
Yeah, you read that right! Many people experience a lot of frustration before they can find their match. The not-so-glamourous courtship arena has people flexing a life they can barely afford to make an impression. Time and again, a Nairobi babe has been accused of gold-digging and champs shamed for being broke.
On social media, there are endless “couple goals” that make some of us feel like we are missing out on a VIP section of life. Recently, I saw a “I Said Yes” video on Instagram and my left hand felt empty, almost naked…ooh and another one where a babe was surprised with a baby Murano…I mean a Juke, for their 2 months anniversary. And meanwhile, my crush left me on read for 2 days!
Behind some of these posts are relationships hanging by a thread. Held together by the need for validation, especially on Instagram. The most beautiful of couples are struggling with infidelity, financial issues, and more. Let us not even talk about the new face of infidelity, with the modern generation emphasizing happiness and self-discovery. Side chicks and sponsors are the new norm in relationships.
Would love to hear your experiences about dating in Nairobi. And some painful moments such as coming across an Instagram post of your favourite couple in a 5-star restaurant, dining and catching sunset while you are wondering if eating Smocha for supper is considered “fine dining”.
